Time for Change - top 5 things 'to-do' if you are a job seeker

1. Update your CV or your resumé

You would need to reflect your latest job title and the roles and responsibilities that you assume in your CV. Ensure that you have your referees updated with the right contact information and that they are aware that you have named them in your CV.

2. Get a cover letter / template ready

Do prepare a cover letter template ready for you to send out along with your CV when you are applying for jobs. There is no such thing as a one size that fits all. Every job that you apply for will have specific roles and responsibilities. This is where you need to understand what the specifications are, and reflect that in your cover letter.

3. Clean up your act on social media

Most employers will search you on Google before giving you a call for an interview. Whilst FB and Instagram keep us updated and informed in our own social network, the information out there about our actions and lifestyle may not form a the ideal impression for some of these employers. Before any opinions can be formed, perhaps review your privacy settings and if it is something questionable, go 'ghost' on the internet for a while.

4. Set yourself up on LinkedIn

It is a good time to establish yourself professionally on LinkedIn. It is a great way to get connected through people in the same industry or beyond that. Always ensure that you update your profile and simply let people know that you are present and available.

5. Keep an open mind

It is not almost straightforward and easy with landing yourself your dream job. The hard truth is that, the market will always be competitive. If you think that a job post is suitable for you, there may be hundreds, if not thousands out there who would be thinking the same. You may need to expand your search criteria a little bit. Maybe you like sales, but you could also include consulting in your search.
